Professor Sandon Larson Memorial Scholarship

Donor: Friends, Family, and Colleagues of Sandon Larson

The purpose of the Sandon Larson Memorial scholarship is to support a student that is determined to obtain higher education despite setbacks in honor of our colleague that had a huge impact on the Mt. SAC Sign Language and Interpreting Program. Our friend Sandon Larson passed away, at the age of 37, on September 20, 2023. As a Deaf person, he held a special place in his students' hearts by sharing the love for his language of ASL and Deaf Culture with many people. He leaves behind numerous family members, friends, students, colleagues, and two young sons. We will miss him more than words can express.

Sandon began as a full-time professor at Mt. SAC in 2016 after serving as an adjunct at Mt. SAC and surrounding area colleges and universities. Though he had multiple degrees, it was his Master of Arts in Sign Language Education from the renowned Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C that he was most proud of. A self-described, complete extrovert with a “yellow” personality type, Sandon lit up every room he was in.

He put his heart and soul into teaching others about American Sign Language and Deaf Culture. With this scholarship, we hope it will propel a student forward that has shown an interest in ASL and Deaf Culture.
